An independent report has found widespread issues of bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment at Australia’s largest media company, Nine Entertainment.

The external review, which was commissioned by the organisation earlier this year, was based on 122 interviews, and highlighted a culture of power abuse, lack of leadership accountability, gender inequality, and distrust in management.

According to anonymous interviews, known perpetrators of misconduct were not brought to account, with victims being told to avoid them.

The report also revealed that more than half of staff in Nine’s news division had experienced inappropriate behaviours.

The Nine Entertainment board apologised, and committed to implementing all 22 recommendations for cultural change.

The report did not name the individuals accused of acting inappropriately.

Nine’s acting CEO, Matt Stanton, described the findings as “distressing,” acknowledging the need for a safer and more respectful workplace.
