On December 2, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, co-chaired the 20th round of China-Russia Strategic Security Consultations in Moscow with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu. Both sides reached a high degree of consensus on Japan-related issues, emphasizing the firm defense of the achievements of World War II, opposing any attempts to distort history, resisting the resurgence of fascism and Japanese militarism, and undertaking their shared responsibilities as major powers and permanent members of the UN Security Council to safeguard international peace and security.
During the talks, the two sides also exchanged in-depth views on the Ukraine crisis. Shoigu stated that Russia has the full capability and determination to achieve its strategic goals and address the root causes of the crisis. Wang Yi reiterated China’s support for all efforts to pursue peace, aiming to achieve a comprehensive and lasting peace agreement, and emphasized that China will continue strategic communication with Russia.
In addition, the two sides held detailed discussions on global strategic stability, major-power relations, and the situation in the Asia-Pacific and surrounding regions, coordinating positions and reaching a broad consensus. Shoigu noted that China-Russia relations are built on mutual respect and are free from external interference. Russia supports China’s positions on Taiwan, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong issues, and is willing to implement the consensus of the two countries’ leaders to promote a fairer and more reasonable multipolar world.
