Israel–Palestine Tensions Escalate Ahead of Board of Peace Meeting

Just days before the first meeting of the U.S.-initiated “Peace Committee,” Israeli forces launched airstrikes across multiple areas of Gaza on February 15, reigniting tensions in the region.

Palestinian officials reported that at least 11 civilians were killed, including women and children, and several others were injured. The Israeli military stated that the operation targeted Hamas militants and commanders allegedly violating the ceasefire agreement and described the strikes as a response to recent attacks. Hamas condemned the airstrikes as a “new massacre” against innocent civilians.

The strikes occurred as the Peace Committee, established by President Trump, was scheduled to convene in Washington on February 19. Representatives from multiple countries are expected to discuss post-ceasefire reconstruction and aid plans for Gaza, pledging to raise more than $7 billion. Although the ceasefire aims to stabilize the region, ongoing disputes over its terms and mutual accusations of violations pose serious challenges to the peace process.
