Large-scale “No Kings” protests targeting the Trump administration were held across multiple locations worldwide in late March, with organisers stating that more than 3,000 events took place simultaneously across the United States and drew millions of participants.

While total attendance has yet to be fully verified, major cities including New York, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco all saw large rallies, with overall turnout estimated to exceed eight million people.

In Minnesota, the flagship demonstration in St Paul drew tens of thousands of protesters outside the state capitol, voicing opposition to government policies. Musician Bruce Springsteen also performed locally, further boosting attention on the event. In New York, several political and entertainment figures, including the state attorney general and actor Robert De Niro, appeared in support of the protests.

Demonstrations also spread overseas, with American expatriates and local participants holding rallies in countries including France, Germany, Italy and Greece. The United Kingdom also saw large-scale anti–far-right protests. The coordinated actions were widely seen as a transnational response to the Trump administration and its policy direction.

The White House and Republican leadership strongly criticised the protests, describing them as “anti-American gatherings” and accusing organisers of political mobilisation. At the same time, counter-protests in support of the government were reported in several cities, including in Florida and Texas, where some right-wing groups took part, highlighting growing divisions.

During the protests, an area surrounding the state capitol in Honolulu, Hawaii, was briefly evacuated following a bomb threat. Police later confirmed there was no credible danger, and demonstrations resumed at alternative locations.

Analysts say “No Kings Day” has evolved into an ongoing protest movement, with multiple actions held since 2025, reflecting deepening political divisions within the United States and their increasing extension onto the global stage.
