Queensland police sued after officer caught describing Indians as ‘perverts’ while investigating rideshare driver

A Punjabi rideshare driver has launched Federal Court action against the Queensland Police Service (QPS), alleging a year-long investigation into him was fueled by racial bias. Despite the driver providing Uber trip data and phone records proving he was speaking to his sister in India at the time of the alleged incident, police pursued charges of an “indecent act” for a year before eventually withdrawing them.

The lawsuit highlights a disturbing body-worn camera recording where an arresting officer was caught describing Indians as a “bunch of fucking perverts” while discussing a separate matter. The driver also alleges he was subjected to racial slurs by a resident during the initial confrontation, including being called an “Indian dog”.

While the QPS has declined to comment due to ongoing legal proceedings, the case has sparked significant concern regarding systemic racism and the integrity of police investigations involving minority groups.
