Trump Lists Four Major Goals Against Iran, Warns Larger-Scale Strikes Are Coming

U.S. President Trump stated at the White House that America has four primary strategic objectives regarding Iran, warning that a “massive offensive” against Iran has yet to begin and that future military actions will escalate further. Meanwhile, conflict in the Middle East continues to expand, with a new round of clashes erupting between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah.

Trump outlined four primary objectives: First, destroy Iran’s ballistic missile stockpiles and production capabilities; second, “eliminate” Iran’s naval forces, claiming ten warships have already been sunk; third, prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons; fourth, halt Iran’s provision of weapons, funding, and command to proxy armed groups.

However, he did not mention overthrowing the Iranian regime in his objectives, nor did he reiterate calls for the Iranian people to rise up against their government.

In an interview with CNN, Trump stated that the current military operations are merely the beginning. He described the U.S. offensive as “hitting Iran hard,” but emphasized that “the real wave hasn’t come yet,” adding that larger-scale attacks would commence soon.

The conflict has further escalated. Iran’s ally, the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, launched missiles and drones toward Israel, prompting Israel to carry out a large-scale airstrike on Lebanon, resulting in at least 31 deaths and 149 injuries.

Commentary:

From the overall situation, Trump appears largely unaffected by domestic and international public opinion, nor has he publicly addressed the war’s legitimacy or basis in international law. His rhetoric focuses on military objectives rather than directly pursuing regime change. However, given his targeting of leaders’ locations, intervention in the regime may only be a matter of time.

Simultaneously, this has heightened international scrutiny on Iran’s future political landscape. Although several senior leaders and military commanders perished in the conflict, Iran’s governance system has evolved over 47 years, making it difficult to swiftly dismantle through airstrikes alone. Eliminated commanders can be rapidly replaced by successors, and Iran retains the capability to retaliate against the United States and Israel, rendering the trajectory of the conflict highly uncertain.
