Singapore Assures Australia Of Continued Fuel Supply After Annual Leaders’ Meeting

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese wrapped up a visit to Singapore to discuss fuel and gas supply security, with reports confirming his departure from the country around April 11, 2026. It is reported that Albanese had signed an agreement with Singapore to cooperate on keeping energy supplies flowing.

The efforts between both countries to secure the reciprocal flow of fuel and LNG was a key priority for both the Prime Minister and his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong during the pair’s annual leaders’ meeting on Friday. Singapore provides over half of the nation’s petrol, as well as 22 per cent of its jet fuel and 15 per cent of its diesel. In return, Australia is Singapore’s second-largest supplier of liquefied natural gas, providing it with 32 per cent of its supply.

Fronting a joint press conference at his official residence, Istana, Mr Wong said he appreciates Prime Minister Albanese’s assurance that Australia will continue supplying LNG to Singapore, because natural gas is Singapore’s main source for power generation. In this case, those supplies predominantly come from countries abutting the Strait of Hormuz, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Iraq.

However, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s confident tone was coupled with a warning that exports would hold “as long as upstream supplies continue”, pointing to the prospect of lower output if Singapore could not source enough crude oil as the trajectory of the war remained uncertain.
