US President Donald Trump met King Charles III of the United Kingdom at the White House, with the White House later posting a photo of the two on social media describing them as “Two Kings,” drawing public attention.
During his visit to the United States, King Charles III also addressed the US Congress, stressing that instability in Europe and the Middle East requires the UK and US to maintain a close alliance to defend democratic systems. He noted that the two countries have stood side by side through multiple wars and crises, and called for continued cooperation amid global uncertainty, including support for Ukraine against Russia and caution against isolationism.
Although Buckingham Palace had said the speech would avoid political content, Charles referred to NATO’s role and international security issues, which analysts interpreted as carrying policy signals. He also reiterated the importance of environmental protection and shared values.
Trump, after the meeting, praised Charles as “a terrific man” and described the talks as successful. However, he also criticised UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer over his stance on the Iran conflict, saying Britain had not provided sufficient support.
The visit comes at a time of diverging views between the US and UK, particularly over Middle East policy. Charles also notably avoided addressing controversies linked to the late US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Analysts say the visit symbolically reaffirmed the alliance, while also highlighting underlying tensions in international affairs.
