US and Iran Confirm Peace Agreement Achieved Over War

The United States and Iran have reached a breakthrough ceasefire agreement, marking a major step toward ending recent conflicts.

Ahead of a formal signing ceremony in Switzerland this Friday, the two nations have agreed on a memorandum of understanding to halt hostilities across all fronts, reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, and lift the US maritime blockade on Iranian ports. The preliminary agreement provides a 60-day window of intensive technical negotiations for both sides to finalize a permanent solution regarding regional security and Iran’s nuclear program.

US Vice President Vance announced that the ceasefire could signal the arrival of a “new era” in the Middle East, praising Donald Trump’s efforts to broker the deal alongside Gulf states and regional allies. Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani welcomed the agreement on the memorandum of understanding, stating he looks forward to all parties participating in the upcoming negotiations with a positive and constructive spirit to contribute to consolidating and advancing this progress.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also expressed readiness to support the technical talks between the US and Iran. These talks aim to ensure the permanent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and to finalize the specific terms of the nuclear deal. French President Emmanuel Macron also expressed support for the agreement reached between Washington and Tehran, adding that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened unconditionally, and that France will continue to support the Lebanese government in its efforts to control Hezbollah.

However, the statement was not welcomed in Israel, where right-wing media close to the Israeli Prime Minister launched attacks against Trump. Given that the US and Israel do not see eye-to-eye on the Iran issue, combined with Trump’s announcement of this agreement, Israel may be forced to halt its bombing of Lebanon, and could even withdraw its troops from Lebanon or at least cease its invasion.
