How to save money while shopping online this Christmas

on

2020 has been the year of shopping online. And with Christmas just around the corner, there are ways to make that work in your favour. Here are some tips to help you save money online this Christmas.

Always compare prices

Even for big ticket items like phones or computers, different retailers can have wildly different prices. Even if you think a price looks particularly cheap, it’s worth searching around to see what other retailers are offering.

Price comparison websites can do some of the hard work for you.

Another tip is to join forums and online communities that share deals and discounts.

Don’t always trust a discount

One trick retailers use is to advertise items as significantly marked down.

As a consumer, it sends a message that you might be getting a good deal. But that’s not always the case.

Coupon codes may help you save a few dollars

Sometimes retailers may have coupon codes that will help you save a few dollars at the checkout.

You can often find codes on retailers’ websites or social media accounts.

The pros and cons of ‘cashback’ providers

Another option you may want to investigate is joining a cashback provider.

These businesses get a commission from retailers, usually between 2 and 20 per cent.

They pass on some of the commission to their members who purchase the goods, usually after a period of 90 days, while keeping some of it for themselves.
