Let’s discover 5 simple yet highly effective tricks for taking beautiful and tempting food photos with your iPhone.

1  Looking for natural light

If you have a great balcony or window sill, it is best to shoot in the morning when the sun shines in through the window. During this time, you can also use the backlight angle for shooting, the backlight makes the food feel bright and warm.

2  Shooting from above

Try different shooting angles. Shooting from above is often the best choice, especially when the food is arranged on a plate or bowl. Shooting from above has several benefits. It allows you to include all the details of the food and the background, and it emphasizes the bold shapes of the dishes, cutlery and other objects within the scene.

3  Arrange Your Food Neatly

Arrange your food in a neat or unique way to create visual interest and balance. Playing around with fruits and vegetables, cut them into similar shapes and create patterns on your plate or baking tray. The way you arrange your food will have a big impact on the final image. Composition is the key to great food photography, and the position of each element in the scene should be carefully thought out.

4  Give it a bite

It doesn’t have to be an unbearable tooth mark or bite mark. But you can try to create photos of food that are “being eaten” or “about to be eaten”. This method can not only create photos with stories, but also show beautiful cross-sections of food. If the filling of your food is liquid or semi liquid (such as lava chocolate), then this shooting method will be very suitable for this way of expression.

5  Decorate The Scene

To make your photos look more interesting you may consider decorating the scene with some other smaller items. One of the methods is to include some flowers or some of the dry ingredients that you use for cooking the food. For e.g some berries, fruit pieces, nuts, chocolate pieces and fresh herbs.

Apart from adding interest to the composition, this can also help to create a “visual recipe” for your food photo.
