Melbourne’s lockdown will be lifted once 70% of Victorian adults are fully vaccinated against Covid, expected about 26 October, the Victorian premier Daniel Andrews announced on Sunday.
By last Friday, there were 1,646 cases in the City of Hume, more than a third of all infections in Melbourne. Meanwhile vaccination rates are among the lowest in the state.
New South Wales will introduce a home quarantine “pilot” for international arrivals as part of a plan to begin opening international borders even as parts of the state returned to lockdown.
