The first part of Victoria’s cash back voucher scheme has launched, with diners now able to claim back a rebate on their restaurant, cafe and bar bills.

Some $10 million of the package will go to Melbourne diners in the rebate scheme, which officially launched on Monday. Those who eat in the CBD from Monday to Thursday will be able to apply for dining bill rebates of 25 per cent if they spend more than $40.

However, the most a diner could claim under the scheme would be $125 on a $500 bill. The $125 rebates per person are available at any restaurant, cafe and bar where meals are served across the City of Melbourne municipality.

It is available until funds are exhausted and to claim, diners must upload a copy of their itemised receipt and submit it through the Midweek Melbourne Money website.

Once the claim is approved, the customer’s rebate will be credited to their nominated bank account within five business days.

Last month, Minister for Industry Support and Recovery Martin Pakula said the scheme would eventually be extended across the state. After the City of Melbourne round is exhausted, an additional $30 million will go towards the same dining rebate program for eateries outside the CBD.

The 25 per cent rebate will be available to diners anywhere in the state who eat out between Monday to Thursday. Another $30 million will also go towards entertainment vouchers for the theatre, live music, cinemas, museums, galleries and exhibitions.

The travel voucher program will be also be extended with another 150,000 offered statewide. Victorians who spend at least $400 on paid accommodation, experiences, tours or attractions within the state will be able to claim $200 back.
