The Australian government has warned that scammers are exploiting the recent global CrowdStrike outage on Microsoft Windows systems, to target small businesses with fake fixes.
Following the faulty update from CrowdStrike, scammers have taken the opportunity to send phishing emails, posing as CrowdStrike or Microsoft, to solicit bank details under the guise of providing a solution.
Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil has advised Australians to be cautious of suspicious emails or texts, and to report scams to Scamwatch.
The Australian Cyber Security Centre and the ACCC have both cautioned against downloading unsolicited software, or responding to unexpected communications.
The CrowdStrike outage, which caused significant disruption, is now largely resolved, but some businesses are still facing challenges, as they bring their systems back online.783
