A recent Australian Institute of Health and Welfare report has revealed that domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness among refugee women in Australia.

The study found that one-in-eight humanitarian entrants sought help from specialist housing services, compared to one-in-50 from the permanent migrant population, with three-in-five of those seeking help being women.

The report found that Domestic Violence accounted for 17.8 per cent of the cases leading to housing vulnerability.

Additionally, refugees were almost twice as likely to be hospitalised as other permanent migrants, with assault-related injuries occurring at more than six times the average rate.

The report underscores the need for targeted support for refugees, who number over 210-thousand in Australia, and face significant health and safety challenges.
