Nine Entertainment has announced significant job cuts due to challenging economic conditions and declining advertising revenue plaguing the sector.
As a result of the decision, up to 85 senior journalists from major Australian mastheads, including the Sydney Morning Herald, The Age, and the Australian Financial Review, have taken voluntary redundancies.
These departures mark the second significant editorial exodus since 2012.
The redundancies have occurred amid ongoing industrial tension at Nine Entertainment, where 500 journalists recently went on strike over pay disputes, affecting news production.
This latest round of exits highlights continued upheaval in Australia’s media landscape, as both Nine and News Corp Australia navigate financial pressures by reducing staff.
