The Australian government has announced a 125-million-dollar investment to support Pacific nations in transitioning to renewable energy, improving energy security and economic resilience.
The funding, revealed at the COP29 climate summit, includes 75 million dollars through the REnew Pacific program and 50 million dollars via the Australia-Pacific Partnership for Energy Transition.
The REnew Pacific program will deliver off-grid and community-scale renewables, benefiting rural communities with reliable energy for essential services like water access, education, and healthcare.
The Partnership for Energy Transition will fund renewable energy modelling, feasibility studies and academic collaborations.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the initiative reinforces Australia’s commitment to climate leadership and supports Pacific nations in reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels.
The announcement is part of broader climate action funding, as global leaders push for increased financial support to meet 2030 climate goals.
