Woman Sues NSW Police for Violence, Files Civil Action

Published

on

On July 23, 2025, a woman formally filed a civil action in the New South Wales High Court against the police for assault and tort for inflicting undue violence on her during an enforcement action.

It is understood that the incident occurred a year ago, when the woman was confronted by police in a public place and was allegedly subjected to aggressive tactics by a number of police officers due to a misunderstanding or miscalculation, during which time she claimed that she did not put up any resistance but was pushed to the ground, restrained in her movements, and suffered from physical bruising and persistent psychological trauma. Her legal representative has argued that the police’s actions clearly went beyond what was necessary for reasonable enforcement of the law and amounted to excessive force, and she is now asking the court to award her financial damages, including medical expenses and emotional distress, and to call for systemic reforms to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

There has been no official response from NSW Police and the case will proceed to pre-trial proceedings with further investigation and disclosure of evidence expected to begin in the next few weeks.
