Bolsonaro Placed Under House Arrest

According to The Guardian, Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes has ordered former President Jair Bolsonaro to be placed under house arrest for six months. The ruling stems from his alleged involvement in a plot to overturn the 2022 election results, as well as his use of a falsified COVID-19 vaccination certificate in March of this year.

Several retired military officers and political figures are also under investigation in connection with the case. The court alleges that Bolsonaro and his allies tried to influence the armed forces and undermine the democratically elected government.

Bolsonaro’s supporters reacted strongly, staging protests in multiple cities and accusing the judiciary of political persecution. The move has deepened Brazil’s already severe political divisions and social unrest. Observers note that the house arrest could mark a critical turning point in the country’s political trajectory.
