News Corp, owned by the Murdoch family, has announced the launch of a California edition of the New York Post—titled California Post—set to debut in early 2026. The new outlet will be headed by New York Post senior deputy editor Nick Papps and based in Los Angeles.
California Post is expected to follow the Post‘s existing editorial style: right-leaning, provocative, celebrity-focused, and aligned with conservative viewpoints. Coverage will center on news, sports, entertainment, and cultural commentary.
The move comes amid widespread layoffs and declining advertising revenue across local U.S. media. While News Corp claims it aims to “fill the local news vacuum,” analysts view it as another example of Rupert Murdoch’s continued media empire expansion despite his advanced age.
However, media observers question whether the expansion genuinely addresses local news needs or is primarily intended to wage ideological battles in Murdoch’s signature style. Critics say California Post is strategically targeting Los Angeles, which is a progressive, diverse city, and warn the publication could deepen political and social polarization in California.
