Israel and Hamas Reach Ceasefire Agreement
On October 13, 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a historic statement supporting a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas at a summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Trump stated that peace had been achieved in the Middle East, emphasizing that the next step would be rebuilding Gaza and urging all parties to move past historical grievances. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was invited but did not attend due to the upcoming Jewish festival of Simchat Torah.
The agreement was signed hours after Hamas returned 20 surviving hostages and the bodies of 4 deceased hostages to Israel, though 24 deceased hostages remain unreturned, drawing strong criticism from families of the victims.
