Top 5 streaming services in Australia

Published

on

Do you like watching TV series? Are there any movies you like to watch? This week we will introduce 5 video streaming platform services that are very popular in Australia for home entertainment. Come and see what suits you!

Netflix

If you’re a TV fanatic or a movie buff, Netflix is one of the best online streaming services you should considered. It is the biggest and best streaming service.  It boasting top-notch scripted programming alongside with binge-worthy documentary and reality content to satisfy its subscribers. Apart from excellent original TV shows and movies, Netflix even launches localized albums in specific regions that made Netflix the undisputed leader of streaming services.

Though Netflix is a little pricey compared to its competitors, it’s value for money for its enormous number of exclusives shows and for the overall quality of its service, which is unmatched.

Stan

As Australia’s first major streaming service, Stan has kept up its quality all this while since in its launches five years ago. Not only does it boast a huge catalogue of quality films, a fairly large number of them are offered in 4K Ultra HD, too.

In addition to movies and TV shows, Stan is now the Australian streaming home for Rugby. It helps you to keep yourself informed with a number of Rugby-specific shows. You can stream live matches on Stan, catch up on games or rewatch the grand finals from years gone by.

Admittedly, Stan has raised its price a couple of times since it arrived on the Aussie streaming scene, but not to the extent of its closest competitor, Netflix.

Disney Plus

Disney+  is very much a family-friendly streaming platform, except Star — a separate category on the platform that houses the content for more mature audiences. This separate category means it’s still easy to keep Disney+ very family-friendly, and you can set up a Kids Profile for children under the age of seven. It also makes navigating the platform easier as you simply choose the ‘Star’ category to find a huge range of shows and movies for the more mature audience. In terms of television shows, Disney Plus does boast a handful of shows that would be worth the price of admission on their own – For example, The Simpsons, Star Wars series, The Mandalorian and the works from Marvel Studios.

Amazon Prime Video

Amazon also has its original movies, but often arrive on the service months after their theatrical debut. Amazon boasts an absolutely huge library of films and older television shows. There’s seemingly an endless number to choose from, which is pretty impressive.

It’s hard to compare against Netflix, Stan or even Disney+, however, and even if they cost more than Prime Video. You might find it a bit more value in Amazon Prime subscription if you do more online shopping, especially when considering the price point. All in all, we can anticipate the Prime Video is slowly expanding its content with a cheaper monthly price.

Kayo Sports

Described as the ‘Netflix of sports’, Kayo does a remarkable job of providing instant streaming access to over 50 sporting events. The content is nearly identical to what you’ll find on Foxtel’s services. There are 50-plus sports to choose from, including live broadcast of big-ticket events like Formula 1, NRL, AFL, international cricket, World Surf League and more. Additionally, Kayo offers a number of unique and fantastic streaming features, such as picture-in-picture video, a split-view mode that let you watch multiple sports streams simultaneously, a ‘key moments’ feature that shows just the highlights, a mode that blocks spoilers for games which you haven’t watch yet, the ability to choose playback speed and more.

  1. Get better value by comparing unit prices

Unit prices break down the cost of a product into standard units of measurement, such as per 100 grams, and let you compare different products more easily. So look beyond the headline price of an item and see where you could be getting better value by comparing unit prices between different brands or different packet sizes.

  1. Switch to supermarket-brand products

Our tests have found that supermarket homebrand products have improved in quality in recent years, occasionally even outdoing national brands in taste tests. The even better news is that our latest basket survey found possible savings of up to 40% when shoppers switched to these products.

  1. Grab specials as they come up

Our supermarket surveys found very little price difference between the big retailers, meaning switching between them when each offers specials could go a long way in helping you save.

  1. Look for product refills

More retailers are now selling products that can be refilled, which means you can save money and reduce the amount of environmental waste you produce.

  1. Avoid pre-cut food items

We’ve found that some pre-cut fruit and vegetables can cost up to five times as much per kilo as the unprocessed originals, not to mention leaving you with more plastic to get rid of.
